Description
Making maple syrup. Sugar maple tree sap begins to run when the temps get in the 40's daytime & 20-30's night. This causes the pressure to rise. Rising pressure gets the sap flowing. The 31" circumference tree has a 2" deep hole drilled and the tap is placed with a bag, bucket or tube attached to collect the sap. Then cook the sap-just boil it. It takes 1 gallon of sap to make 1/2 cup of syrup.Maple trees can produce syrup for up to 100 years.
